Don Bernard of Bozeman, Montana, has performed a wide variety of occupations throughout this life. Don Bernard began his career as a lawyer in the state of Texas. After graduating with a Juris Doctor from The University of Texas at Austin School of Law, Donald Bernard spent a year with The Supreme Court of Texas before becoming the Assistant Attorney General of the State of Texas.

Don Bernard served the next 20 years as a Partner in his own law firm, Bernard & Bernard in Houston, Texas. In 1990, Don Bernard opened a private practice and spent 14 years as a private practitioner. Throughout his law career, Donald Ray Bernard accumulated numerous professional memberships, such as the Houston Bar Association, American Bar Association, and Inter-American Bar Association. As the Chairperson for the International Law section for the Houston Bar Association, Don Bernard was also a Delegate to the first international bar conference between the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR).

During his early career, Don Bernard was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy for nearly 20 years. Retiring a Commander in 1975, Don Bernard was also a fan of the sky; in that realm, he served as an Air Show Pilot for the Confederate Air Force from 1970 to 1980. Owner of a Commercial Pilot License, Donald R. Bernard has been a Certified Mountain Search Pilot for Montana emergency services since 2008.

Don Bernard was also on the Houston Association of Realtors in addition to the faculty for the Southwestern School of Real Estate for nine years.
